Committee Mission Statement: As a part of its overall mandate, ISCT is the organization responsible for facilitating the “translational” aspects of cell therapy development. Commercial entities bear much of the primary responsibility to translate cell therapy research into clinical products. The ISCT Cell Therapy Commercialization Committee will serve as a sponsor of ideas, open communication, working groups, and publications that will help support industry’s needs in furthering the commercialization of cell therapy products. The committee will also champion ISCT’s continued growth and development as a society to better serve the needs of its academic and commercial members.

Committee Objectives:

  • Address questions related to the commercialization of cell therapies, such as:
-What, if any, role is there for the distributive model for cell therapies in the US?
-What data is available and can/should be made public re: the per-product cost of various types of cell therapies?
-What can be done collectively to raise the level of awareness and interest from capital firms?
-What are the primary regulatory-related problems currently facing the field? What can this group do about them?
  • Create and maintain a forum for B-2-B networking for all companies interested in the sector to use to identify opportunities for collaboration. For example, academic expertise/support available for companies to leverage like early ideas, experiment run on behalf of industry, etc.
  • Create and maintain an "industry stakeholder network" that will function as a focus group for ISCT, any company in the sector, the FDA, etc to access for input, information, feedback, advice, etc.
  • Influence ISCT’s continued development into an organization that serves industry as well as academic centers and cell therapy beyond HSCs.
  • Support for, education of, interaction with, and expansion of model academic-industry programs like McGowan Institute, BEST Committee, etc.
  • Oversight and support of working groups assigned to the committee (e.g., devices working group).
  • Serve as a primary driver for interactions with the investment community.
  • Lobby for legislation that protects, promotes, and funds cell therapy research
  • Working closely with ISCT’s regulatory committees, liaise with regulatory authorities internationally to promote and support development of harmonized, pro-commercialization, regulatory environments
  • Interact with and support the activities of USP
  • Create, publish, and promote a paper on what the committee views to be the “viable” business models around various types of cell therapy
